Turf and Landscape - Summer Weed Issues

Crabgrass breaks can be seen in lawns and landscapes across Delwaware at this time. Wiregrass is another summer problem weed. The following are some pictures.

Wiregrass (Bermudagrass) infestation along with clover. Wiregrass grows prolifically in the summer heat. Target late summer control programs with Acclaim Extra in turf.

Crabgrass encroachment into a lawn from a property edge next to a crop field. Many crabgrass patches are producing seed. Mowing will not always keep seed heads from being produced as they can be close to the ground. Large crabgrass can be difficult to control with postemergence herbicides so expect escapes. Note areas with heavy infestations and plan for agressive control programs next year.
